Program Description

This three-and-a-half week summer program in Aix-en-Provence is an intensive immersion experience. Students are taught by resident French faculty at all levels, from elementary French to advanced courses in culture and civilization, and receive six credit hours.  A Loyola University Chicago faculty administrator is on hand at all times to accompany students on numerous excursions and cultural events, and to ensure the success of their experience in France.

Faculty

Loyola Modern Languages French faculty will lead this program.  Courses will be taught by French faculty from the University of Provence.

Academics

Target students for this program are undergraduate students who wish to major or minor in French, participate in a French language immersion, and/or complete a foreign language requirement by taking FREN 101 & 102.

Courses taken during the summer will be at the University of Provence and will include students from around the world who have come to the university to study French language.  Classes take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a coffee break around 10 a.m.  The courses will count for six credit hours for various 101 to 300-level French courses.  Students may elect to take:

NOTE: Students are not restricted to combining courses in the pairs indicated above. For example, a student may take FREN 102 & 103 or FREN 104 & 250 or FREN 251 & 300 if that is where they are in their sequence of French coursework. However, classes taken must total 6 credit hours.

Housing & Meals

Most students choose to live at the residence hotel Le Moulin, located near the University of Provence campus.  Students will stay in shared suites that include a private kitchenette and bathroom and wifi internet access.  Students may also choose to do a homestay for greater cultural and French language immersion.  For information about homestays and homestay guidelines click here.

During the week, breakfast and lunch will be provided at the University of Provence cafeteria.

Dates

July 3 - Students Arrive in Aix (Program Start)
July 4 - Language Placement Test
July 7 - Classes Begin
July 26 - Students Depart Aix (Program End)

Students accepted into the program will receive specific information regarding by when and where they will need to be in Aix-en-Provence on July 4th and by when they will need to vacate their housing on July 26th.  Accepted students should not make travel arrangements until receiving these arrival and departure guidelines.

Costs

Program fee of $1,800 includes:

Tuition: $4,140

 

Total cost: $5,940

Not Included: $100 OIP non-refundable application fee, airfare, train fare, personal spending money, other meals, optional baggage and travel insurance, and incidental expenses.  All students will be required to purchase the Loyola CISI international health insurance separately (approximately $45/month).
